He was born July 8,1950, in Clarksburg, WV, son of James Edward and Emily Brennan of 306 Rotary Road, Huntington. He was a member of Christ Methodist Church, Huntington. He was a 1968 graduate of Huntington East High School, where he starred on the football team and won a scholarship. He attended Marshall University for two years where he was a member of RO.T.C. He was manager of Martin Cadillac of Los Angeles. Also surviving are his wife, Tae Brennan; two sisters, Mrs. Ben (Eilleen) Bagon of Humboldt, IA, and Mrs. Edwin (Kathy) Walters of Ocala, FL.; two brothers, Charles E. He was born Jan. 10, 1951, in Huntington, a son of John and Margaret Collins Claypool. He was a machinist for D. J. Manufacturing Inc. and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion, Milton and VFW Post 9738, Guyandotte, whose members will conduct military graveside rites. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Claypool Jr., Phillip Claypool and Timmy Claypool. MRS. TERESA LYNN ANDERSON LYCANS, 43, of Barboursville, WV, beloved wife of Glen Lycans, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, Oct. 10, 1993, at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, by the Rev. Richard R. Glass. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born Sept. 16, 1950, at Huntington, a daughter of Thomas and Helen Kitchen Anderson. She was a member of Apostolic Life Cathedral and attended Elmwood Baptist Church at Martha. She was a member of VFW Post 9 738 Ladies Auxiliary and the Madie Carroll Preservation Society. During her lifetime, she generously volunteered her time and art talent to various organizations. After the death of her son, Daniel, she became involved with Compassionate Friends Support Group where she was the secretary and published the newsletter. Later she became a founder and driving force behind the start of Guyandotte Civil War Days. Her artwork was used in all of the Civil War Days brochures and she participated in the reenactments. As a result of all of her hard work, she was named WSAZ-TV Home Town Hero. She was preceded in death by a 13-year-old son, Daniel Scott Jejjers in 1985. Additional survivors include three sons, Bryan and Matthew Jeffers, and Casey Lycans, all of Barboursville; two stepsons, Matthew Lycans of Barboursville and Jeremy Lycans of Huron, OH; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Pat Anderson, a sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Steve Huff, and a maternal grandmother, Ada Anderson, all of Huntington. |

SEAMONDS. 47, of Grosse Pointe, MI, formerly of Huntington, WV, eldest son of Billy Jack and Joyce Seamonds of Huntington, died Tuesday, February 17, 1998 unexpectedly after a short illness at his home in Grosse Pointe, MI. He was born in Huntington, W. Va., on May 1, 1950. He graduated from Marshall University in 1971 with a major in journalism. He worked for the Herald-Dispatch after graduating and later with the Associated Press. He became Bureau Chief of U.S. News and World Report in Detroit, MI. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bryan Frances Seamonds; his paternal grandfather and grandmother, Henry Clay and Mae Seamonds; and his nraternal grandmother, Ora Bailey Wilson. Addilional survivors include his wife, Paula Gibson Seamonds; a son, Sean Seamonds of Indianapolis, Indiana; a daughter, Ashley Seamonds of Canton, MI; a brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Pam Seamonds of Huntington; a sister, Carla Seamonds of Huntington; and a nephew and niece, Justin Seamonds and Raehel Seamonds, both of Huntington. He was born Dec. 26, 1950, in Huntington, WV. Mike served his machinist apprenticeship at INCO Alloys International, Inc. and was a retired machinist with CSX. He was an Army Sergeant in the 1st Air Cavalry during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene A. Cobb, his stepfather, Bill Sanders, paternal grandparents, Grace and Thomas Cobb and maternal grandparents, Edith and Earl O. Walton. Mike was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A native of Huntington, W.Va., Mrs. Gehring was a homemaker, a music teacher who loved to sing. She was a Registered Nurse, a member of the Parents Association of Asheville School, President of the Jackson County Recreation Board, volunteered for PTA at Fairview Elementary School, President of WCU Chorus, member of Kudzu Players and a member of the Jackson County Advisory Board of AIG. Mrs. Gehring was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Perry Ripley. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Paul S. Gehring, of the home; two daughters, Molly and Sarah of the home; two brothers, John and his wife Kitty of Austin, Texas, and Daniel "Andrew" and his wife Norma Ripley of Huntington, W.Va.; her father, Daniel C. EASTON, MD — Barbara Diane (Rogers) Effingham of Easton died on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005 at her home with her husband at her side, ending an 11-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 55. Born in Huntington, W.Va., on March 12, 1950, she was the daughter of the late L.D. and Vivian McCorkle Rodgers. After graduating from Huntington East High School in 1968, she attended Marshall University while beginning a 17-year career with the C&P Telephone Company. In 1980, she transferred as a Customer Service Representative for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mrs. Effingham and her family moved to Easton in 1984, and along with teaching aerobics at the Talbot County YMCA, she worked at Woodlawn Memorial Park and the News Center in Easton prior to becoming a medical assistant for Dr. Robert Bowen. She received an associate degree in phlebotomy from Chesapeake College at Wye Mills.She was an avid reader who also enjoyed knitting, crafting and skiing. She attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton, and the White Haven Church in Church Creek.Mrs. Effingham is survived by her husband, Larry Effingham, whom she married on Jan. 31, 1969; a daughter, Sara Seltzer, and her husband Aaron of Middle River; a son, Damon, who is a senior at New York University; a brother, William Rodgers and his wife Vicki of Little River, S.C.; and a sister, Melody Mullis of Huntington, W.Va.Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton. The REV. WAYNE JEWELL BREWER, of Palm Coast, Fla., went home to meet his Lord and Savior Nov. 29, 2005. Wayne, 55, formerly of Huntington, was associate pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bunnell, Fla. The family received friends Thursday evening, Dec. 1, 2005, at the Lohman Palm Coast Funeral Home, Palm Coast, Fla. Funeral services were conducted at his church, The First Baptist Church of Bunnell, Fla., at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, with the Rev. Dr. Paul S. Warren, the Rev. Rick Wright and Pastor Mike Saunders officiating. Wayne was born in Huntington, Aug. 16, 1950, and as a young boy, was converted to Christ under the ministry of his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Paul S. Warren. He truly embodied the title "minister," having served the Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church for 21 years. It was there he married his beloved wife and dedicated his two beautiful daughters. After his service there, he served as minister of music at Second Baptist Church, Ashland, Ky., where he also was ordained as a minister in the Southern Baptist Church. Lighthouse Baptist Church, Hurricane, W.Va., was his third place of service and there he served as the minister of music. Later, he planted a new Southern Baptist church at Winfield, W.Va., where he was pastor of Faith Baptist Church. In December 2003, he accepted the call as minister of music and education at First Baptist Church of Bunnell, Fla. He was a talented, highly devoted and very giving man of God. Wayne served in many capacities within the church, sharing his love of music and his many other talents. Wayne was very imaginative and creative and he spent considerable time thinking about what the joy of being in the presence of his Lord and what the glory of Heaven would be like. We can all take comfort in knowing Wayne is now at His feet, surrounded by His love. Wayne was preceded in death by his stepfather, Willard Johnson; a sister, Patricia Dishman; and a brother, Norman Brewer. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindi Legge Brewer; his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Bill Ford of Lynchburg, Va. and his daughter, Maribeth Brewer, at home; his mother, Marie Johnson; brother, Sam Ernest Brewer, Jr.; sisters, Edith Brewer, Tiffany Bailey and Judy Conrad; several nieces and nephews; his second family of loving in-laws and his loving church family. |

DUNCAN QUINN HILL, 55, of Inman, S.C., died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, after a valiant struggle with cancer. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a son of the late Leslie Jordan Quinn and Janet Virginia Bahlmann Quinn Hill. Mr. Hill graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for INVISTA and his career had taken him throughout the world with his most recent position being in Augsburg, Germany. Surviving are his wife, Moncia Hill, of the home; a niece, Elizabeth Githens, of Franklin, Tenn.; a nephew, Nicholas Githens, of Franklin, Tenn.; and a mother-in-law, Mrs. Verna M. Githens, of Spartanburg, S.C. He is predeceased by a stepfather, George T. Hill. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Elizabeth. Emma Lou is survived by her true love, her husband Gary, son Scotty and his wife Tammy of Tennessee. She was born February 19, 1950 in Huntington, a daughter of Aubrey C. and Katheryn Hilsheimer McCaleb of Huntington, WV. She was formerly a Registered Nurse at CAMC and Thomas Memorial Hospital, Charleston, WV. She graduated from Huntington East High School in 1968. Carol is also a graduate of the C & O School of Nursing, Clifton Forge, VA and West Virginia State, Institute, WV. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Carla Ray of Mission Viejo, CA and Cathy Brown of Edmond, OK; one brother, Craig McCaleb of Trenton, NJ; two nephews, Brandon and J.T. Rakes, Sr. and Betty Jo Sager Rakes Siple. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Darrell D. Rakes, Jr. and two sisters, Connie G. Rakes and Trudy Rakes Siple. He was formerly Business Manager of The Daily Independent of Ashland and was also a member of the International Newspaper Financial Executives. Since 1988, he also served as Administrator of the charity, The Needy Families Fund. He was a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church where he had previously served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Usher and on various church committees. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Meredith L. Rakes, two daughters and sons-in-law, Nicole (Kevin) Wilson of Huntington and Tracie and Orin Runyon of South Point; three grandsons, Kaleb Wilson of Huntington and Dawson and Tanner Runyon of South Point; a niece, Miranda Adkins and nephews, Josh Siple, Isaiah Rakes and David Rakes and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Norma Scarberry of Huntington. KARLA JOHNSON MURPHY never met a stranger. She could instantly connect with people, whether it be in a grocery store line or at a family reunion. Karla left this world that she loved so dearly on Jan. 11, 2010. She was born to Doris Lemley Johnson and the late Carl Johnson. She was a beauty, but her real beauty came from within, from her joyous personality that was quick with a laugh even in her final days. She married the love of her life Mike Murphy and together they raised two beautiful daughters, Sara Owen of Charlotte, N.C., and Lindsay Owen of Huntington. Sara and Lindsay describe her as a wonderful mother. In recent years, additional joy was brought to their lives in granddaughter Olivia Adeline Owen of Huntington. SHARON “LYNN” APPLEDON, 59 of Huntington, WV, stood up and ran into the arms of her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 22, 2010. She was immediately embraced by her parents, Charles Edward Roach, Clara Ellender Kirby and Lonnie Lewis Kirby. And finally, she was able to reach out and hold her precious great-niece, Kaitlin Alexa Dial. Family members left on Earth to remember and cherish her until they meet her again in Heaven are: beloved daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Chuck Howerton; granddaughter, Brooke Howerton; special niece and nephew, Jennifer and Jason Dial; great niece and great-nephew, Kelsie and Andrew Dial, both whom she cherished beyond measure and were the center of her world. He was born June 13, 1950 to the late Roy Cline and Pauline Halstead Kyle. He is survived by his wife Sarah Eaton Kyle; one son Christopher Kyle of Huntington, WV; one daughter Kimberly (Gonzalo) Robayo of AZ; one granddaughter Isabella Robayo of AZ; one brother W.R. "Butch" Kyle of Huntington, WV; one sister Kay Erickson of Louisville, KY and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and retired Postal Clerk from the United States Postal Service at the Marshall Station. He was a member of the Huntington Road Runners. Danny was born January 17, 1950 in Huntington a son of the late Daniel and Myrtle Hill Keith. He was formerly employed by CSX and also worked for a special needs group home where he met his wife of fifteen years. He was a life long musician that took great pleasure in using his gift of music. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson; DeErin Keith. Danny is survived by his wife, Rose Keith; two daughters Stephanie Johnson of Boston, MA and Shadanna Keith of Richmond VA; one step-daughter; Chiquita Middleton of Richmond VA; two step-sons Dennis Myers and Brian Hooser of Lexington Ky; eight grandchildren, three brothers; James Keith, Toney (Norma) Keith. Roseann was born on April 21, 1950, in Richmond, Ky., the daughter of Rose Lee Dunbar Dozier and the late Robert L. Dozier. She was a retired teacher with the Wayne County Schools. She is survived by her husband David Taylor; two sons, Matthew and Nicholas Taylor and a daughter, Jessica Sowards; two grandchildren, Blaine and Mason; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Janet Dozier; and two nieces.

NORMAN EUGENE BIAS, 62, of Marysville, Ohio, formerly of Benson, N.C., passed away peacefully in his sleep following a brief illness on March 7, 2011. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., on September 2, 1948, to Norman H. Bias and Lillian M. Hagley Bias Snider. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Donald E. Snider. He is survived by his loving sisters, Patricia Bias of Danville, Calif. and Sandra (Vincent) Gonzalez of Urbana, Ohio; his favorite niece, Cindy Gonzalez (Greg Grinstead) of Marysville Ohio; his faithful dog companion, Bailey, and many who loved him more than he knew. Norman graduated from Huntington (W.Va.) East High School in 1965 with state championship medals in cross country and track events. He attended Marshal University where he was also member of the cross country/track team. He served his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam Conflict. Norman worked for 30 years as a surveyor for Priest and Craven and Enoch Engineering firms in Raleigh, N.C. The job was a great joy as he loved working outdoors! While in Raleigh, he played in and coached several billiards teams and won many league titles. He loved all sports and as a resident of N.C., attended Nascar events regularly. Having a niece who graduated from OSU made him an avid Buckeye fan. Norman relocated to Ohio in 2010, and enjoyed his new job and co-workers at Batteries Plus in Columbus. The cold midwestern winter was an adjustment, but, he loved being near his family. The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011, in the Walter and Smith Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana, OH, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Horrigan officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana, Ohio.
